02/19/2026

The brethren of the Holy Imperial Serbian Lavra of Hilandar on Mount Athos solemnly celebrated the Feast of Venerable Simeon the Myrrh‑flowing, founder and heavenly protector of the Hilandar monastic community.

Since the general date of the Feast of Saint Simeon the Myrrh‑flowing (February 26) falls during Great Lent this year, the celebration was moved (February 19) in accordance with the decree of the 35th chapter of the ‘Hilandar Typikon’ of St. Sava.

In the spirit of the 830th anniversary of the transfer of the relics of Venerable Simeon the Myrrh‑flowing from Hilandar to Studenica, the festive vigil and the Divine Hierarchical Liturgy in the Hilandar monastery’s Catholicon were presided over by the Vicar Bishop of His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, His Grace Bishop Ilarion of Novo Brdo.

Monks from Karakallou and Hilandar, together with members of the choir ‘Saint Simeon the Myrrh‑flowing,’ enriched the beauty of the all‑night service with their chanting. The choir also celebrated its feast on this occasion.

Monks from several Athonite monasteries, along with many guests and pilgrims from Serbia and other countries, attended the monastery’s panegyric.

At the end of the Liturgy, festive koliva featuring the depiction of Venerable Simeon the Myrrh‑flowing was blessed. Afterward, a festive meal was served to all present in the Hilandar refectory.
