Hilandar Days at the Zemun Gymnasium


As part of the celebration marking the anniversary – 165 years of the school and 825 years of Hilandar, “Hilandar Days at the Zemun Gymnasium” were held on November 2nd and 3rd, 2023.

During the first evening, principal, Milos Bjelanovich, welcomed the Abbot of Hilandar, the Very Reverend Archimandrite Metodije, and the monks from Hilandar – the first epitropos monk Teodosije, Hierodeacon Hariton, monk Toma, the clergy, and esteemed guests.

In his speech, Abbot Metodije greeted all present, conveying the blessings of the monastery’s brotherhood and, above all, the Abbess of Hilandar Monastery, the Most Holy Theotokos of the Three Hands.

Abbot Metodije presented the Gymnasium principal with a plaque issued on the occasion of the 825th anniversary of Hilandar.

Following the Abbot’s speech, Monk Teodosije of the Hilandar addressed the attendees with a speech on monasticism titled “Monastic Life: Beginning, Middle, and End”. During the evening, a video work by Monk Teodosije titled ‘Serbia’ was shown, composed of photographs showing Hilandar Brotherhood.

On the second evening of “Hilandar Days at the Zemun Gymnasium’ a round table discussion was held on the topic: ‘Hilandar and Us, Pilgrims.’ Participants included His Grace Bishop of Novo Brdo, Mr. Ilarion, the Very Reverend Archimandrite Metodije, Abbot of Hilandar Monastery, Monk Teodosije of the Hilandar, Zeljko Vasich, a singer, and students from the Zemun Gymnasium.


During the commemoration of this anniversary, an exhibition of photographs of Hilandar Monastery titled “Hilandar through the lens of Monk Milutin of Hilandar” was displayed in the premises of the Zemun Gymnasium.
