At the Grand Exhibition Hall of the Banski Dvor on February 2, 2024, a significant exhibition entitled “Saint Sava of Hilandar and the Holy Mount: Contemporary Artistic Expression” was opened.

After the welcome speech given by the director of the Banski Dvor, Mr. Mladen Matović, the numerous guests at the exhibition opening were addressed by Ms. Jelena Jovanović, the head of the Republic of Srpska representative office in Greece; the director of the Mount Athos Center in Thessaloniki and the curator of the exhibition, Mr. Anastasios Duros; Mr. Milivoj Ranđić, the director of the Foundation of the Holy Monastery of Hilandar; venerable Archimandrite Methodius, the abbot of the Holy Monastery of Hilandar, while the exhibition was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Srpska, Mr. Milorad Dodik.

This exhibition is a part of a wider range of events at the Mount Athos Center in Thessaloniki celebrating 800 years since Saint Sava of Hilandar and the Holy Mountain, has been consecrated as the first Serbian Archbishop (1219-2019). Most of the events were organized in 2019, through various artistic works (egg tempera, enamel, woodcarving, embroidery, digital art, watercolour on stone, etc.) representing Saint Sava of Hilandar (1176-1235/6), the founder of the Holy Monastery of Hilandar on Mount Athos, together with his father, Saint Simeon, as seen by contemporary iconographers and painters.

The exhibition was initially presented in Thessaloniki at the exhibition space of the Mount Athos Center, then in Belgrade at the Konak of Princess Ljubica, and later in Veliko Trnovo at the “Rafael Mihaylov” Gallery.

The exhibition in Banja Luka was organized by the Mount Athos Center in Thessaloniki, the Representative office of the Republic of Srpska in Greece, the Foundation of the Holy Monastery of Hilandar, and the Banski Dvor Cultural Center. The exhibition is open to visitors from February 3 to February 23, 2024.
